hello!!! congrats on the chapter 2 part 1 release!!! you've worked very hard and you should be proud of what you've accomplished!
so far I've only played as the Military!MC and god i could just feel how much their family cherishes them. i specifically play as a Military!MC who's not really entirely sure what she wants and is just trying to fulfill their duty so to speak and thus hasn't really voiced any of their doubts, but that little moment made me think, "you know, i don't think they would immediately turn their backs on you like you fear they would." idk it just made me tear up a lil bit ;3; disappointing them would still make me sad, but i was gladdened to see MC loved by their parents and siblings. i will probably defo come back after playing as an Orphan or Wastelander MC (*w*)
that said, i had to mention something funny. so i often use "Nikola", shortened as "Niko" as my preferred name. i also tend to play as a Chinese MC if the setting is conducive for it because well I'M Chinese xD so it was ESPECIALLY funny for me to meet Nico as Niko. like ok buddy, one of us is gonna have to change--especially if we're dating LOL
even funnier is that you said Nico would be a bard in DND...because I, too, am a bard in DND/BG3. when asked the same question about me, all of my friends took one look at my dopey, loves to sing, "but can i kiss the eldritch abomination?", troublemaker gremlin ass and said "yeah that's a bard." and now i am so curious and excited to see what makes Nico a bard >W<
*insert Spiderman pointing meme*
✓Chinese
✓Shared/homophonous nickname/preferred name
✓Bards
✓Military background
✓Rhyming surnames (Zhu VS Wu)
ONE OF US IS GONNA HAVE TO CHANGE, BUDDY!!! nah jk we can just be Nico^2. or to avoid confusion i'm just gonna give him THE most annoying nicknames. and/or petnames if i romance him LOL please wish me luck that i come out of this IF unscathed for i am just as likely to get eaten by an Exillium as i am to get blasted by Nico for calling him "my dumpling" over the comms.
anyhow. once again, congratulations on chapter 2 part 1!!! i look forward to what else you've got cooking up; that said, please take all the time you need! you've worked very hard!!!!
Thank you so much for the kind words, Anon! All the hard work is worth it when I see how much you and others are enjoying the game.
Military!MC has a lot of interesting family moments throughout the game. The battle of wanting to not disappoint your father, live up to the family legacy, fear of isolation and rivalry and tension with siblings will all come into play in later chapters.
But there will be a lot of sweet moments to soften the angst!
Also that is absolutely hilarious, what a coincidence! Not so long ago another anon said the same thing but in regards to being Astrid! So I see I have anon twins. I can't believe it.
I am still new to coding so I'm not sure how to get characters to recognise players as having the same name as them but when I do, I'm writing that as a scene. Nico would 100% insist that he gets to be nico prime and MC will have to go by a nickname.
Perhaps people will get to see his bard side in part two hehe.
Thank you for the ask and you made my night! I love the Niko and Nico duo. Truly iconic

well, I finished my rewatch of the whole of the Hilda series. Def noticed and remembered a lot more things than I thought I would and that'd'll b helpful for any post-series headcanons and comics I might do. If I do any comics then they'd def b minis inbetween any Owlphibia ones I make (next on the list is Mrs Wu's apology to Sashanne btw).
It just really sucks that upon my rewatch I really did see/feel how Netflix screwed over the 3rd season by shortening it. As nice as all of these streaming services are for more non-traditional animated series', the fact that most of them are cancelled or shortened is a big problem. I remember when shows had way more than 10-12 eps a season and a lot of these studios who produce these shows (Disney, Netflix, etc) def have the money but don't want to spend it on quality shows (so they can instead give that cash to shareholders and execs). I really wish that we could've gotten those 6 eps that were planned for S3 since without them it felt like the season went by in a sprint instead of the previous seasons where we had time to walk around and enjoy the scenery and the characters (like the Pooka, who doesn't love the Pooka?...well, besides Astrid).
Still tho', I'd recommend Hilda to anyone that hasn't seen it and to rewatch it if u have. I doubt it but if they made a complete series dvd set (including the movie) I'd 100% buy it.

I really like Jun's character and I'm sorry that the series didn't know how to handle her starring episodes well, given that her only good episodes are "Ride or Die" and "Journey to the Snowcano" , but she did a great job in a supporting role, having a great background related to her family and the Kullersens, really having many characteristics as a character that could have been developed very well, but the script always did the same with her.
Mainly and something that I like to change in my headcanon is the need for her to be a calm character, being that she likes to read books and draw, being calm and smart suits her very well, making decisions like her mother sometimes does or learning from all those stories that her father, grandparents, uncles probably told her. The script tried to make her a second Astrid and that didn't fit at all with Jun. it's noticeable that the intelligent side goes with her because she was able to learn Viking runes right away and after a while naturally read a book with Viking text without using a dictionary or anything, with her only being 14, learning an ancient language is not as easy as it seems and indicates that Jun is really very good when it comes to researching ancient civilizations (which also goes very well with Tom's exploratory side). why not make episodes centered on that? no, let's make episodes so she is capricious, something opposite to what she tries to prove.
Tumblr media
Something that is rarely mentioned but is important is that the Wongs are a pretty broken family, there are small hints that Jun has divorced parents, and she is probably forced to be with May, at her request, and little time with her father whom she really loves. The opposite is the case with Eugene, he mentioned not having a good relationship with his father but does with his mother. Both children are forced to be with parents with whom they do not have a good relationship. May continually tries to make Jun be someone like her and that he can inherit the job she has, probably despising everything Jun loves that comes from his father.
Another thing that could have been addressed and made into a pretty touching episode of Jun talking about her dad but instead of having that we just got a poorly done episode of Jun being like her mom when really she wants to be her own person, I feel like this show did a better job of having D'Angelo proving to his dad that he doesn't want to be like him but it didn't do a good job with Jun because she could never really face her mom properly and tell her that she doesn't want to be like her. I feel like that topic was normalized for her and that wasn't right.
We lost a good story for an episode, and to show a real weakness in a teenager, which is: that your parents often have control over you, and it's something real.
We also missed the opportunity to address issues like divorced parents or a father abandoning his son, cases that Jun, Eugene and Tom went through because they were the 3 characters with broken families and it was never properly addressed.
Tumblr media
We only had one episode dedicated to Jun, Wu, and Wei. "Journey to the Snowcano" I really like but it also makes me really angry, why do all the other characters listen to their dragons and it's okay but when Jun does it it's wrong? the same dragon wanted to go up the mountain and Jun was just trying to interpret it based on stories she grew up with but the script decided that now she was wrong, when all the other characters always listen to their dragons but it was easier to ignore the dragon that instinctively tried to go up the mountain.
Wu and Wei are very good dragons, instinctively protective of their rider, as shown in Hearts of Heroes by responding to Jun's pain at being verbally hurt by Tom.
Jun believes in creatures that others think are fictional. She should be the rider with the closest bond with her dragon (after Tom), but we haven't had any more episodes centered around her and Wu Wei. We haven't had anything solely about Wu Wei, either.
Tumblr media
Team moment: I think the team of 4 was very good until season 3, there were well-defined friendships and they didn't need a Eugene to divide the team. D'Angelo and Tom seemed to get along and when they argued, they made up. Alex and Jun also got along very well, they had several moments where it seemed like they could become best friends, Jun managed several times to make Alex not be so closed off, I really enjoyed when Jun hugged her several times. I feel like all this was ruined when Eugene entered the team and changed all the relationships. Even making Tom and Jun a couple because of Eugene's push was pretty bad. The team of 4 was good and balanced, each character had their good and bad moments but nothing really serious like we got in season 7.
Tumblr media
A small aside from the above: Jun and Alex's relationship, although they were both different I really felt that they complemented each other very well, I really liked Alex's character before she started befriending Eugene, she really would have been a great best friend for Jun. Alex also calmly helped her deal with her phobia of spiders, and Jun encouraged Alex to stop being so closed off. I feel sorry for what the script did to their friendship.
Tumblr media
Eugene case: I don't dislike Eugene's character as much as it seems, but I would have liked that since he was the oldest of the group, he would have behaved as such, a little more mature than the others and more protective of who is supposed to be his younger sister. I won't talk much about Eugene but it is noticeable that he has a certain imbalance, probably due to his parents, just like Jun. He could have been a weak character at the beginning but mature at the end, and show, unlike Jun, that he was like his mother, even show that he was fit to follow in his mother's footsteps. But the script did its thing, again.
Tumblr media
And finally, the cherry on the cake: Tom, the most important person for Jun. I always saw this relationship as very nice, mainly because they are characters who have known each other since their childhood and people ignore that for some reason, they probably had a difficult childhood in which they relied on each other a lot. When Jun seemed to be sad, it was Tom who noticed and knew the reason for that, meaning he knows perfectly well the parental problems Jun went through, considering that they hadn't seen each other since they were 6 years old.
They both know each other, Jun knew every single thing that Tom couldn't do right, probably because he used to get into trouble. Tom also expressed that he loves Jun's stories which would indicate that they probably read them together since they were 6 years old, another thing that people ignore. There really was a lot to explore here: Tom wasn't much of a bookish person but he started reading them after Jun told him that the hidden world is based on the Nine Realms, activating Tom's exploratory side. They both have shown that they would probably work very well together making discoveries. Jun seems to be passionate about it and it feels like with Tom she would be able to explore that new passion, she doesn't want to be like her mother, she would probably make a good explorer like Tom. While Tom prefers more of an adventurer, she would go more for the investigation.
I don't want to make a fight about characters and couples but most fans underestimate this relationship because of their hatred towards Jun and claim that they like another couple more because they have more "chemistry" completely ignoring all the background that these characters have and why they are together.
Yes, I'm not happy either with how this relationship started, how they made Jun look like the problem with everything, maybe that fueled more of the excessive hate that the couple and the characters had, but even so, it shouldn't be a justification to take away credit from all the bond they had, even long before the first episode of this series. Yes, they had a lot better material to make the characters be together or at least develop their bond, but the script never knew what to do with them after they became a couple. Instead of improving as individual characters, it seemed like the characters were getting worse, even Tom returned to one of his behaviors that he was supposed to have abandoned several seasons ago.
The solution to this wasn't "he'd better stay with the other girl," it was to develop the characters properly; many characters here have gotten worse. I don't hate any of them; I love the entire crew. Even Eugene finds good things about him amidst all the nonsense. But what the script did to Jun still bothers me, because it's clear they never knew what to do with her. So far, her best episode will be "Ride or Die."
Tumblr media
Anyway, I hope the Httyd fandom in general will stop throwing so much hate at her, when the problem here was the poor development and characterization. If you're only capable of hating something because you find it annoying, maybe you can't see beyond that.
I hope I can continue drawing my 20 year old versions of the characters and change several bad traits they had in their 14-15 years (17 Eugene). I also want to draw more of Jun with his dad, I feel like it's something I've wanted to see since season 2 and never got. I won't be joining the collective hate of any character, they all have good and bad things, the end.

Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
Tumblr media
While it would be nice for every story to be wholly new and completely unpredictable, there’s something satisfying about a film that uses genre tropes this well. Crazy Rich Asians is the best romantic comedy we’ve seen in a long time. It’s glamorous, romantic, gorgeous, hilarious, smart and expertly directed.
Economics professor Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) is travelling to Singapore with her boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding) for his best friend Colin’s wedding. There, she learns that Nick's family is among the richest in the country. Dismissed by many because they don’t believe she will fit in, Rachel becomes determined to prove them wrong.
I watched Crazy Rich Asians on a double-bill with Monster-in-Law because of the two pictures’ similarities. Basically, they share a plot but the execution makes them so different it’s like they have nothing in common. You can probably guess the story’s beats but there’s a twist to them that makes Crazy Rich Asians so much more. When you see Nick and Rachel together, they’re perfect. She’s got a good head on her shoulders. He’s wealthy but isn't insensitive to the problems of the common person and doesn't flaunt his riches. The performers have excellent chemistry. They’re both beautiful people. The camera doesn’t shy away from showing you Henry Golding without a shirt on and Constance Wu appears in several glamorous outfits that make her look like a princess. You like them as individuals. You like them even better as a couple. There’s no reason for Nick's mother, Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh) to disapprove of them but she does. In her eyes, Rachel's upbringing means she will never fit in.
It’s not that Rachel grew up “poor” and that Nick didn’t. This film is deeper than that. Eleanor doesn’t approve because of the way Rachel was raised. Her parents were Chinese but she grew up in America. In Eleanor's eyes, Rachel could never understand the values the Young family hold so dearly. The opening scene shows Eleanor being discrimated against for being a foreigner. It generates sympathy for her. Seeing her judge Rachel later shows how much of a hypocrite she is.
You could dig deep into the film’s themes of old money vs. new money, of tradition and need to move away from them as well, the significance of the relationship between Astrid (Gemma Chan) and her husband, Michael (Pierre Png), or what it means to see a major theatrical release with an all-Asian cast, but ultimately, all of these are gravy. What you came for are some laughs and scenes of tenderness that will make your date want to hold your hand. That's what you get. The wedding Nick and Rachel attend is so beautiful and so glamorous. It radiates love so brightly it’ll bring tears to your eyes. It’s as romantic as attending a real-life wedding between two people you know are perfect for each other. You love seeing Nick and Rachel together. Seeing them having a great time with every luxury money can buy at their fingertips is rewarding.
There's so much going on with the cinematography, sets and costume designs you could watch the movie on mute and have a great time but then you’d be missing out on the comedy. Awkwafina (an actress who continues to impress with each film) delivers one big laugh after another. So does Ken Jeong - the funniest he’s been in years. Many of the side characters are quirky and memorable for their comedic values. The “serious” characterization is left to the main cast, with Eleanor coming off as particularly multi-faceted. She can afford to be. As in any fantasy, the leads have to be “perfect” to reinforce that anyone who doesn’t cheer for them is a villain.
Crazy Rich Asians is so enormously pleasing only those with a bone to pick against romantic comedies could dislike it. That said, I would agree with criticisms directed towards the conclusion. It’s a bit too long and does indulge a bit in some rom-com clichés. I'm mentioning this to show I'm not biased. The visuals, humor, drama and romance make Crazy Rich Asians a film you’ll be glad to return to over and over. It’s a terrific pick for date night. (August 7, 2020)

Note
god I’m obsessed with the idea of a Ninjago HTTYD au. Nya taking Astrid’s place as the sister who is so much better at dragon fighting than Kai. Zane, Cole and Jay being the assorted other young viking in the village. Cole even works really well with his little canon arc of going from fearing to loving dragons.
would Ray still act as Chief and Kai and Nya’s dad? Or would he be missing alongside Maya and Wu was the chief, and instead of father-parent relationship it was a more mentor-like one? Like how Wu tried to give these kids chances after their horrible new status as orphans and while Nya flourished, Kai…did not
Anon did you peek inside my brain and figure out how I was going to approach this au?? If so, that’s amazing of you lmao. I cannot confirm nor deny *all* the details, but I'll say that it's surprisingly not Wu who is village chief, but Iron Baron! Ray and Maya took the [Absent In First Film] role seriously, and Faith, being a close friend of theirs, took it upon herself to raise Kai and Nya.
Other than that, it's kind of obvious that the au will heavily draw from the movie's character roles and lore with a few adjustments. Family is very much the heart of this au <333

CANON POLYCULE SHOWDOWN!!
Beware of possible spoilers in the polls!! Some canon stuff isn't revealed until later!
RULES:
Implied canon*, ex-polycules (for example caleb/astrid/eadwulf from critical role campaign 2) and queer platonic polycules are all welcome! If that's the case for your nomination, please make sure to specify in the form!
One nomination per ship, do not spam
You may submit different polyships, but please do so as separate submissions
Word of god canon counts!! (stuff confirmed by authors but not made canon in the media itself)
Include the characters' names in your submission, polyship name is not required but appreciated
Please don't submit Leverage OT3. I'm sorry, but they just won the original Power Polycule Showdown!! It would be kinda unfair. They might come back for a champions battle, though! We'll see.
If anyone starts being an asshole to me, any of the voters, or even the contestants, they will be blocked.
No jokes about death ("ill kms if they lose", "if you vote for so and so kys", "if you dont vote so and so die") in my notes. I made this very clear multiple times during the previous showdown, but those make me uncomfortable, and i will block people over this. I don't care if it's only a joke. I'm a human being with boundaries, please be respectful.
Goes without saying, but no real people. There's also a few fandoms i'll probably disqualify for personal reasons - if you want to know which send me an ask
Be nice and have fun!!!
*What do you mean by implied canon?
Implied canon would be characters with a lot of hints in canon to a possible polycule, intentional or not - for example: aizo/yujiro/hiyori from honeyworks/heroine tarumono, where both boys like hiyori, and she likes both of them as well, and there's plenty of stuff to back that up even if canonically they aren't dating
Nominations form closed!
Automatic entries:
-Megaera/Thanatos/Zagreus (Hades game)
-Wu Zetian/Li Shimin/Gao Yizhi (Iron Widow)
-Aizo/Yujiro/Hiyori (Honeyworks)
-Iruma Suzuki/Clara Valac/Alice Asmodeus (Mairimashita Iruma-kun)
Posts for this one will be tagged #CanonPolyculeShowdown

I think the allure of the movie is multifold. It hits the sweet-spot of intersectional, foreign, privileged, strong women, and formulaic rom-com. I like that the main female characters all have mini arcs and nuances.
Rachel learns to accept that high society life isn’t for her and she has to let go for everyone to be happy.
Astrid learns to accept that she is from high society.
Elanor accepts that just because she sacrificed herself for her family, doesn’t mean she should expect the same from her son or daughter-in-law.
Kerry learned long ago not to accept abuse, and started all over in a new place.
Amanda still cannot get over her old love and suffers for it.
Grandma Young still tries hard to maintain the status quo and will probably suffer disappointment.
Crazy Rich Asians is a 2018 American romantic comedy-drama film directed by Jon M. Chu, from a screenplay by Peter Chiarelli and Adele Lim, based on the 2013 novel of the same title by Kevin Kwan. The film stars Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding, Gemma Chan, Lisa Lu, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong and a debut film for Jasmine Gee.

Kai is Hans from Frozen, Flynn Rider from Tangled, Tyson from Percy Jackson and Grenda from Gravity Falls
(Edit: Small correction! Kai's VA doesn't voice Flynn in the movie, but in a game based on it. Also, there are more examples in reblogs, along with links to interviews of VA's and clips of them voicing certain characters!)

Wit and Humor: Fiction Picks
The Sellout by Paul Beatty
A biting satire about a young man's isolated upbringing and the race trial that sends him to the Supreme Court, Paul Beatty's The Sellout showcases a comic genius at the top of his game. It challenges the sacred tenets of the United States Constitution, urban life, the civil rights movement, the father-son relationship, and the holy grail of racial equality―the black Chinese restaurant. Born in the "agrarian ghetto" of Dickens―on the southern outskirts of Los Angeles―the narrator of The Sellout resigns himself to the fate of lower-middle-class Californians: "I'd die in the same bedroom I'd grown up in, looking up at the cracks in the stucco ceiling that've been there since '68 quake." Raised by a single father, a controversial sociologist, he spent his childhood as the subject in racially charged psychological studies. He is led to believe that his father's pioneering work will result in a memoir that will solve his family's financial woes. But when his father is killed in a police shoot-out, he realizes there never was a memoir. All that's left is the bill for a drive-thru funeral. Fueled by this deceit and the general disrepair of his hometown, the narrator sets out to right another wrong: Dickens has literally been removed from the map to save California from further embarrassment. Enlisting the help of the town's most famous resident―the last surviving Little Rascal, Hominy Jenkins―he initiates the most outrageous action conceivable: reinstating slavery and segregating the local high school, which lands him in the Supreme Court.
Polite Society by Mahesh Rao
Beautiful, clever, and very slightly bored, Ania Khurana has Delhi wrapped around her finger. When Ania finds love for her spinster aunt, she realizes her potential as a force for good. For her next match, Ania sets her sights on Dimple: her newest, sweetest, and, sure, poorest friend. But her good intentions may be misdirected, and when her aunt's handsome new nephew arrives from America, the social tides in Delhi begin to shift. Surrounded by money old and new, navigating gossip, scheming, and an unforgettable cast of journalists, socialites, gurus, and heirs, Ania discovers that when you aim to please the human heart, things seldom go as planned. Using Jane Austen's Emma as a springboard, Polite Society takes us into the lives of a group of characters we never want to part with. Pairing stiletto-sharp observation and social comedy with moments of true tenderness, this delicious romp through the mansions of India's elite celebrates that there's no one route to perfect happiness.
Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan
When Nicholas Young hears that his grandmother, Su Yi, is on her deathbed, he rushes to be by her bedside—but he's not alone. The entire Shang-Young clan has convened from all corners of the globe to stake claim to their matriarch's massive fortune. With each family member vying to inherit Tyersall Park—a trophy estate on sixty-four prime acres in the heart of Singapore—Nicholas' childhood home turns into a hotbed of backbiting and intrigue. As Su Yi's relatives fight over heirlooms, Astrid Leong is at the center of her own storm, desperately in love with her old sweetheart Charlie Wu but tormented by her ex-husband—a man hell-bent on destroying Astrid's reputation and relationship. Meanwhile, Kitty Pong, married to China's second richest man, Jack Bing, still feels upstaged by her new stepdaughter, famous fashionista Colette Bing. In this sweeping tale that takes us from the elegantly appointed mansions of Manila to the secluded private islands in the Sulu Sea, from a kidnapping at Hong Kong's most elite private school to a surprise marriage proposal at an Indian palace that is caught on camera by the telephoto lenses of paparazzi, Kevin Kwan hilariously reveals the long-buried secrets of Asia's most privileged families and their rich people problems.
The Management Style of the Supreme Beings by Tom Holt
When the Supreme Being and his son decide that being supreme isn't for them any more, it's inevitable that things get a bit of a shake-up.
It soon becomes apparent that our new owners, the Venturi brothers, have a very different perspective on all sorts of things. Take Good and Evil, for example. For them, it's an outdated concept that never worked particularly well in the first place.
Unfortunately, the sudden disappearance of right and wrong, while welcomed by some, raises certain concerns amongst those still attached to the previous team's management style.
In particular, there's one of the old gods who didn't move out with the others. A reclusive chap, he lives somewhere up north, and only a handful even believe in him.
But he's watching. And he really does need to know if you've been naughty or nice.
